Certificate

A certificate is a file installed on a web server that is used to establish its identity and provide a means to make a secure, encrypted connection with its visitors using SSL over HTTP (https://).  The identity of the certificate holder is often verified by a trusted third party Certificate Authority (CA), and the certificate must be periodically renewed.
