Microsoft Pauses Rollout of Windows 10 October 2018 Update

Only a few days after the release of the Windows 10 October 2018 feature update, Microsoft halted the rollout after receiving isolated reports of users losing their data files after updating.

Microsoft has fixed this bug and cautiously resumed distribution of the update strictly to users on the Windows Insiders channel, a group that installs “preview builds” of the Windows operating system before they are released to the general public.

Over the course of the month of October, numerous other bugs have been discovered and fixed in this build via patch updates.  Though no official re-release date has been given for the general public, John Cable, Director of Program Management, Windows Servicing and Delivery at Microsoft stated in a blog that,

“We will continue to closely monitor the update and all related feedback and diagnostic data from our Windows Insider community with the utmost vigilance.  Once we have confirmation the there is no further impact we will move towards an official re-release of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update.”

For more in depth information on the issues please see John Cable’s blog post and the update history reported on tenforums.com
